backwards link issue

well, usually it's IE that causes problems with code, but for some reason today only 1/2 of my works that work in IE will work in firefox or safari. does anyone have thoughts on a problem? the top nav links & bottom email link work fine in all browsers, the middle links ("Having trouble...?" & Windows & Mac buttons) only work in IE. page is live at http://elaineloh.com/EL-Reel.html

Go back through your code and make it easier for us to find the locations in the code. I found that your problem links are images, so add a alt tag to the images that we can read. Having your image all named the same with a number at the end makes it difficult for anybody but you to know what is happening.
When you have time go through each line and hit the return key once in awhile, preferable at the end of each tag.

Take a look at the line that the image is in it should look something like:
< a href="http://example.com/folder" >< img src="http://example.com/img.ext" >some optional text< /a >
The above is an absolute address, relative address will work fine as long as you follow the directory tree correctly if any files are in another directory.
Check for ending quotes, greater than character at the end of the tag, The A tag is closed.
Other than that clean up the code a little and someone can look at it again.

yeah the person who designed this site (it was later turned over to me for maintenance) did it in iWeb, which created all those image names. the links i need help with have actual image names. naturally i already checked the basic stuff before i bothered anyone here with this. my tags are all logistically correct, which is why they do work in IE.
i assume this has something to do with the original script/coding created in iWeb, but since i never work with that program, i have no idea where to go to look for the problem.
the actual coding snipped out is:

Start with describing the problem. "Links don't work" is not very helpful. What steps are necessary to repeat the problem? What is it you expect the browser to do exactly?

If you meant to say something like "Nothing happens when I move the mouse cursor over the images or when I click on the images" then I can help.

Just like you can't write on a piece of paper beneath a piece of glass, an anchor element will not capture mouse events when another element is positioned on top of it. No doubt you have read this section of the CSS specification before on positioning.

If you're no longer using iWeb, it might be best to re-write the HTML for the site to avoid relying on absolute positioning.

"links don't work"=when clicked the browser does not go to the designated target location. it doesn't go anywhere at all. it's as if there is *not* a hyperlink there. sorry, i thought that was pretty clear.
i realize i could rewrite the entire site, but since my client only pays me for maintenance i am trying to avoid rewriting the entire site. again, i have never used iWeb and assume i am just missing something here.

Web pages are 3-D - boxes stacked "on top off" other boxes. This web page has the "footer_layer" DIV being stacked on top of your "body_layer" DIV just like a clear piece of glass being stacked on top of a piece of paper.

The band-aid fix is to fix the stacking of the "footer_layer" element:

Should be

<div style="height: 670px; line-height: 0px; margin-left: 0px; position: relative; width: 900px; z-index: 1; " id="footer_layer">

Then the "footer_layer" will be be below the "body_layer" and the anchor elements will be able to get focus and receive mouse events again.
