It all seems fine to me. You appear to have several active users online, according to the forum software. Have you run a trace to see if you are having network issues?

I'm having the same experience as the others who went to test your site:

The site is fast and responsive with 35 users and 30 guests "online".

I suggest you go with a free service such as http://mon.itor.us and see how it responds. You can also Google for "free monitoring service" for other options.

I also suggest setting up a test site or page with static content that you can monitor either manually or automatically. I have one and it's performance helps tells me whether the problem is my site or my server (the problem has never been my site) because if serving up static content is slow, then the problem lies with the server. Of course, there is the small possibility that the problem lies with your network or internet connection.

I had a problem recently that I eventually tracked down to an MTU problem on my sister's wireless router. Several websites were real slow or required several refreshes to work properly.

Site seems to work fine here (though you might want to reread Dreamhost ToS as to its content).

You could open a support ticket asking DH support to look into your server's performance (if you suspect your server is overloaded), though optimization of your own software would still be up to you.

I'm having the same problem...My site has been up and down all day today.

Word I got from support was that a file server was on the fritz and all servers attached to the problematic file server would hiccup when it did.

No ETR

I'm on 7up BTW

Thanks for sharing your experiences, but understand that when you do not provide a link to your site, no one can check to see if they are experiencing the same trouble you are having.

This makes it impossible to tell if your site/server is having issues, or of *you* are experiencing a connectivity issue.

"My site is slow on server 'whatever'" doesn't really tell us much! wink

Have you logged into the shell and checked your server's load numbers when you are having these problems?

It happens to us, http://worldnewstrust.com , a lot. Server loads on the butler server are very, very high. Constantly.

We contact Tech support and they tell us that they cannot find anything out of the ordinary.

I would say that there either is a site, hosted on butler, that is extremely popular or there is a hardware problem. That is a guess, as I am not able to put hands-on with the server.

We have signed up for PS, in the hopes of mitigating the problem, but have received no word on time-to-implementation. I have, yet again, sent in a ticket on the server issue, but have received no reply. I guess I am starting to get the "pest" reputation, something I have taken pains to avoid.

Living with 75-125 second page load times is starting to take the fun out of things. They are definately hurting traffic.

Don't worry about being a pest. Helping them to debug "bad neighbor" problems on the servers is something they appreciate - especially if you're nice and polite and try to keep a "helpful" tone in your support queries!

Yes, I know. I plowed through our Joomla site, yesterday, deleting all mambots and modules no longer used. I have indexed our database. Many other things as well. Nothing works.

I have installed a little administration module that measures server load over a time period of right now/5 minutes/15 minutes. While I do not expect that it is an exactly calibrated tool, worthy of empirical measurements, it does give a reference of things. Server loads in the 20's are common, it is not uncommon to see them in the 30's. Loads in the single digits are rather uncommon, except for the wee hours in the morning.

It's very disheartening, as a lot of work has gone into the site and there seems to be no resolution to this issue. I get the feeling that someone else on that server must have come up with the perfect solution for generating traffic, like giving away Free Sex & Beer. Because he or she is killing our traffic.

I know DH can do better, I have enjoyed incredible service and really fast shared hosting websites from them for a rather long time. I just don't understand this recently bad patch. It just is not like them.

I ALWAYS am respectful, mannerly to a fault and endeavor to give as much technical information, that is at my disposal, as possible. I am a tech weenie myself, so I am certainly am not going to unduly hassle other members of our mystical and eldritch brother/sisterhood. I give them the best skinny I have, presented in the way I know I would like to receive it, and try to always leave them with a smile on their face.

In spite of that, one can get the reputation of a "whiner". I hope that is not part of our problem.

FYI all - we're around LA and have been experiencing delays on and off with static and dynamic pages. Even this forum page died once before I could get to it. I just went public with a new product and wouldn't ya know it but the site is too slow and people can't download our software. Sigh. Filing a trouble ticket.

I just wanted to tell you all that something I said here must have resonated, because we have been moved off the butler server to another with far less server loads. Of course, this is just a stop-gap move until our PS order is up and ready to rock, but server loads are noticibly lower on this server.

Many thanks to the DH people who monitor this forum and, apparently, craft a constructive response to problems. It's a rare thing and it's why we have stuck with DH. I unfailingly recommend DH to friends and customers and have put a number of sites on DH. I will continue to do so.
