Mailbox Too Full To Delete Mail

My inbox limit was previously set at 50 megs. I have no idea why, but even when i totally empty out my inbox it still says it's 92% full.
I upped the limit to 100 megs, so now i'm at about 45/100 megs. It wont allow me to delete stuff in the sent box or the inbox and even though i've purged the trash 100 times the messages are coming back.
I'm getting the following error:
ERROR: Could not complete request.
Query: COPY 74,76:77 "INBOX.Trash"
Reason Given: [ALERT] COPY failed - no write permission or out of disk space.
Did i screw up and chmod my trash box? don't really know how this stuff works
