Two questions in one

The first question is regarding HTTP_REFERER in PHP. I can't get it to work and the environment variable also does not show up in phpinfo(). Is it disabled?
The second is regarding setting up a subdomain. I have two dreamhost accounts and the first one hosts the domain. I want to create a subdomain on the second account. In order for me to do that, I have to add the main domain and then add the subdomain, then add a new A entry to the Chalmers IP. I can't seem to add it because the domain is "already in the system".
Help would be much appreciated.
