path probs. trying to setup phpwebsite

Hi, I'm trying to install phpWebsite (http://phpwebsite.appstate.edu) to my new site/account. Apparently, this *should* be pretty easy, but I am stumbling over step 4 of the clear-seeming install directions (I tried to include the entire install.txt, but the bb software keeps rejecting my post, so it may be too long).
My guess is that I am not getting the full path name right and/or I may have misconfigured my web site/domains thru the control panel (searching the Web on phpwebsite install doesn't seem to turn up any posts w/ similar probs).
Step 1 (untar) went OK. Step 2, running a security script under a non-root option, seemed to work. Step 3, for Windows install, I skipped, since DH runs Linux. Step 4 says: "Open you browser to www.yourdomain.edu/setup/. Once this page has loaded, you will be prompted to create a configuration file."...
OK, my domain is valchain.com, but haven't changed the DNS entry at my registrar (I won't do this until the new site is up and works). So, I want the "indirect" path to my domain. It looks like this *should* be:
http://www.dreamhost.com/home/valchain/valchain.com/setup/ or maybe http://www.dreamhost.com/home/valchain/valchain.com/phpwebsite-0.9.3-full/setup/ since this is the subdir that phpws installed itself in.
But, neither of these seem to work (w/ or w/o the www), so I also set up a subdomain at valchain.dreamhost.com to mirror my DH "valchain.com" account. Then i tried:
http://www.valchain.dreamhost.com/home/valchain/valchain.com/setup/ and http://www.valchain.dreamhost.com/home/valchain/valchain.com/phpwebsite-0.9.3-full/setup/ (both w/ and w/o the www).
So... I am getting a little stumped. Anyone see what I might be doing wrong? Thanks, Rick
