DNS Updates

So, I made some changes to my site. I basically removed 2 of my subdomains and made them plain old directories under my main domain. I want to add 2 redirects to the new pages, but I can't do it yet because the old subdomain info is still in the DNS table. I was just wondering how long it usually takes for the old DNS records to disappear from there?
