SSL for email

I'm having the same issues described previously in this thread. I, too, am unable to use SSL for IMAP and SMTP.
I don't understand why DreamHost doesn't support SSL themselves. If the certificates only cost $30/year, couldn't they just buy one and put it on their mail server? Then everyone could enjoy SSL for email, and the problem would be solved.
