Moving *from* another hosting site

Hi,

So I just signed my employers up to dreamhost. We're looking to migrate off our current hosting to dreamhost. However, before I go switching the dns info to point to dreamhost, I'd really like to see what the site looks like. Now I added a subdomain mysite.dreamhosters as per the FAQ/KB, and I have it mirroring my original site (I've also uploaded my site stuff -- html/flash/images) to my ~/mysite dir on dreamhost). That was 3 odd hours ago -- wondering:
a) did I do the correct thing?
b) is there no ip-addr way to preview exactly what my site will look like?
