Ive added 2 new people to my account, but i cant for the love of god find the path to there accounts from my domain. my domain is http://phat-monkey.net and one of the new users is the name godsend but where is that in relation to my domain is it like /~godsend or /users/~godsend.. ? also where do we put the files when we log onto the account with the username, as i can only see bash profile, logout, and mail folders, any help would be great, thanx tom.

You need to use Domains -> Remap Sub-Dir in the panel to map a URL to a user and directory.

See https://panel.dreamhost.com/kbase/index.cgi?area=2921 for more info.

Ok, thanx, so theres no way to add a user with the username tommy for instance, and be able to see whatever they upload at http://phat-monkey.net/users/~tommy like you can do with ensim ect? the only way ud be able to do that would be to remap the /tommy folder to another folder in the main phat-monkey.net area?

You can remap http://phat-monkey.net/users/~tommy to a directory within the tommy user's home directory.

In the Remap Sub-Dir section select the www.phat-monkey.net domain and enter the path /users/~tommy. You can then select which user it should be mapped to and which directory within their home directory should be used to store the files for the path.

ok.. ive managed to do that but i still dont fully understand, i thought, when u go into the control panel, and set up a new user, with there username and password, it would automatically set up an account for them, and a path, e.g. http://phat-monkey.net/users/~tommy or tommy.phat-monkey.net, or just phat-monkey.net/~tommy, so when they logged in to there ftp, and uploaded there files they could view them straight away, without me having to do all the remapping stuff, is that not the case i guess?

Nothing gets setup automatically when you create a new user. You have to use Remap Subdir to allow that user to upload content to a sub directory. Alternatively you can create a new subdomain (e.g. tommy.phat-monkey.net) associated with the new user.

Ahh ok, i get you now thanx. Would it be possible to transfer a file from a user account, to a sub domain, without having to reupload it at all? cos its about 200 megs, and is sitting in the tommy directory..

You can move files around from an SSH shell (cp and mv commands to copy and move).

Alternatively, you may be able to create the new subdomain in the same location that the files are already in.

ok, we created a new account loaded. and uploaded a file to it, mapped it to the main site, so now, the /home/loaded/vista should be shown in phat-monkey.net/users/~loaded/loaded/vista/ which it is.. can you tell me why when we try download the file all we get is

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /users/~loaded/loaded/vista/Microsoft Windows Vista Beta 1 (www.WarezDDLForum.Tk).iso on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

and how we can make it so we can download it..

At last I agree with something Simon Says, and it's even about windos. :-)

Just wanted you guys to know, for some reason I found this entire thread incredibly amusing. Probably the same bemused feeling I get when a customer, for some reason, spams our support address.

Anyhow, I sent tommyuk a quick note as a reminder about our Terms of Service. It looks like he took the content down already, anyhow (or maybe never got it up?)...

Hey now! That's a little below the belt, Jeff.

Oooh, I just made it worse, didn't I?
