I uploaded the phpBB stuff, and filled out all the form at mydomain.com/phpBB2 When I hit install, it says "phpBB : Critical Error Could not connect to the database "
I know I have the password right - I've tried putting localhost in the DNS, or example.mydomain.com It didn't work.

Did you add a MySQL hostname?
You need to connect to that hostname (mysql.example.com or whatever you specified).
It also takes a couple of hours after you create the database for the DNS to be fully updated.

I got that when I first installed PHPBB too, and it was because I'd only just created the MySQL database and it hadn't had time to take effect yet. Try waiting a little while (an hour or two).
You *did* create a database, right?
