Files not actually going to FTP

What would cause files that I am putting up to my site via a Dreamweaver connection to not actually update on the FTP? Im trying to update my site and everything seems to go up fine, but then the changes are not on the live site and the new files I uploaded are not in the FTP list of files. This is kind of a time sensitive issue for a job, any help would be really really appreciated. Thank you.
