MSProxy and banning?

MSProxy and banning?

Recently in server logs I've noted a couple times where somebody visited my site, and subsequently the same IP address repeatedly requested a page over and over. The visit requests looked like they were from a version of MSIE, but the subsequent repeating requests were from something called MSProxy/2.0.

In one case it went on every 8 minutes for about 5 hours, until I stopped it with a deny from IP in htaccess. In the other case it went on every 15 minutes or so for only about an hour. I've read a little about MSProxy/2.0, but don't really follow what is happening. What good does it do to repeatedly request the same page? That seems like the opposite of what a proxy or cache should do. Can someone please give me a brief explanation?

My related question has to do with banning the repeating requester. How can I estimate how many people or PC's I could be banning if that address is a proxy? (I've played with nslookup and whois)

Thanks,

Bob S.

it could be some sort of mis-configuration issue - do all MSProxy accesses look like that, or just the ones from that IP?
