Own php.ini

Hi there,

I've done everything as described on http://wiki.dreamhost.com/PHP.ini

I'm using Joomla 1.0.15 and I see there an error in admin panel concerning magic_quotes_gpc must be ON. (I know that I can ignore that but my question is about another issue)

I can change my own php.ini and set magic_quotes_gpc = ON, isn't it?

But even when I set it to ON I see this security issue.
I can suppose that my own php.ini configuration is not working.
Can anyone help me with this issue? Appreciate this...

That error doesn't matter, J! retains majority full functionality.

There is advice there on suppression of irrelevant admin notifications.


If it's really bugging you, create an info.php file and browse to it.

Ensure that the line Loaded Configuration File indeed reflects your ini.

eg. /home/.mount/user/domain.com/cgi-bin/php.ini

I've created it
http://moisseyev.com/index.php

and it shows another configuration...

First get everything localised...

In shell, run:

$ cp /dh/cgi-system/php5.cgi ~/moisseyev.com/cgi-bin/php.cgi
$ chmod 0500 ~/moisseyev.com/cgi-bin/php.cgi


In ftp, edit moisseyev.com/.htaccess:

###Action php-cgi /cgi-bin/php-wrapper.cgi
###Action php5-cgi /cgi-bin/php-wrapper.cgi
AddHandler php-cgi .php
Action php-cgi /cgi-bin/php.cgi


Place your custom php.ini in moisseyev.com/cgi-bin/ and retest.

VPS issue. I suggest you contact Support.

You could force it with some trickery, but I think that would be out of scope for this board as it will only lead to confusion for regular copy/pastas (ie. like me, not on VPS) who might stumble across this thread due to it's subject title.

Again, allow me to reitterate that the notification you're seeing isn't necessarily a problem for Joomla! functionality, although I do understand that a "Warning!" looking sign in your admin section may give an unprofessional appearance or some cause for alarm, even though it's benign.

The Wiki article appears to indicate that the 'misleading' message doesn't show on Joomla! v1.5

I'm very sorry, but we do not provide technical support for custom
php.ini files. But the best way to make sure that your custom php.ini
file is being used is to create a PHP file that has the phpinfo()
function in it. That will show your current PHP environment and if it
lists your custom php.ini file in the "Loaded Configuration File" section
then you know it's using yours.

Also, you're more than welcome to ask around at

found a good solution to similar problems. Our customers are usually
pretty awesome so you'll more than likely find what you're looking for
there. I'm really sorry that I can't provide more assistance for you in
this matter directly, though!

I'm not on VPS, however I had occassion to do some work on one last week and discovered the exact issue you're facing now in regard to the loaded config path. I have my thoughts on the why's and wherefore's, but suffice to say while it's unfortunate that it doesn't work as it should "out of the box" there is a way to get it going and it's entirely painless.
