Hi,
I just set up a new DreamHost account and registered a new domain. I'd like to have my old domain redirect visitors to my new one. I'll be closing my account with my old hosting service. Will that then make the old domain effectively useless? Do I need to transfer that domain to DreamHost to continue to use it?

Transfer your old domain registration to DreamHost:
http://wiki.dreamhost.com/Transfer_your_domain_registration_to_us
Once that's all done, you can Redirect the old domain to the new one:
http://wiki.dreamhost.com/Redirect_Domain
This redirect will work since you'll be using DreamHost's DNS service. You can get this going right away by setting your name servers to the DreamHost ones:
http://wiki.dreamhost.com/DNS
This is done at wherever your domain is registered.
