How to know which port number to use?

While trying to install OpenX, which uses PHP and MySQL, the installation wizard asks for the following details in order to connect to the database:
• Database server name
• Port number
• Database username
• Database password
We have created a new database, and have all the info except the port number. The OpenX wizard is trying to use a default number of 3306. Do you know what port number we should be using? Or if there are any permissions settings that will need to be changed before this program will work?
How is one to know which port number to use?
