Problem creating IMAP folders

Problem creating IMAP folders

Greetings!

I seem to only be able to create IMAP folders inside my Inbox (using either SquirrelMail or a desktop IMAP application). I'd like to be able to create folders at the same level as the Inbox, which sounds possible according to this SupportWiki entry.

But each time I try, I get the following error:

ERROR: Could not complete request.
Query: CREATE "test"
Reason Given: Invalid mailbox name.

Any thoughts on how I can accomplish this will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Eric

KB entries in the wiki are typically the old Knowledge Base archive. That article was created two years ago.

I didn't read it closely enough to figure you what made it seem that you could create something at the Inbox level, but no. Inbox is the prefix for all mail. I got that tidbit from when I set up OS X mail.app:

No, all folders have to be under the inbox. Any program which can make it seem as if they are on the same "level" as the inbox is doing something else. On the Dreamhost server they are all inside the inbox.
