I am trying to install php5 since dreamhost has moved my site to a server using 64bit libraries instead of 32bit. I have tried to follow the wiki to install but it seems that the scripts there do not work well or require fixes that I'm not sure how to apply. Is there somewhere (or someone) that will tell me exactly what steps to take to make it work? I usually try to solve a problem by myself through searches and tutorials but this has me stumped. Any help is appreciated.

No. Actually I'm not sure that I do. I never had to before. They just told me they don't do help with fixing the library change and suggested I do the php5 from the wiki. So I dove into trying to fix something they wouldn't fix.
