SQL Alternative

I'm trying to move a customer to a different Web hosting company and I need some advice. I'm an IT person (typically) though I will help people with their Web sites if I can. A customer of mine was having problems with their Web hosting company so I volunteered to transfer them to DreamHost, no charge. The mistake I made was not looking at their Web site very closely and realizing that the Web site uses Active Server Pages (asp - for the searches). Of course DreamHost does not support asp. Plan B was to contract with a company that supported asp and just upload the site there. Since I was not getting paid for the effort I didn't want to spend too much time on it. Since moving the site to the new Web hosting company I have not been able to get it to work properly because I have no experience with the SQL database which is key to a part of their Web site (I have no SQL experience, period). I'm not even sure I have everything I need from the company that created the Web site or that the database survived the move to the new Web hosting company. According to my customer every step of the process of moving the Web site to her full control was like pulling teeth. She also seems to think they are capable of sabotaging the site so I'm not sure if what I have is even functional.

Since I'm going to have to spend a lot of time on this after all, maybe it would be just as easy to start over with the portion of the Web site that uses the SQL database and program it another way and stay with DreamHost.

What I need is a login page, a user page for uploading and downloading files, and an administrator page for adding users.

I changed all of the Web page extensions to .htm from .asp and with a few other changes was able to make it functional except for the file upload portion.

You can use PHP, PERL, CGI, etc. for uploading sites. The 7 hour limit for uploading indicated on the original site might pose a problem unless you're on PS. Any idea of the filesizes the company is dealing with here?

I'd rather get rid of the 7 hour limit anyways. The files are going to be 1-20mb.

You could work off just about any Open Source upload script.

lol i was looking for this thread! someone posted about an applicaion called eyeOS in another one and i thought it looked really good. i'm about to go to work so i can't install it to play with it mysel but http://gganet.com/demoeye is the demo the guy made and you will have to create your own account to play with it and the website is here http://eyeos.org/en . I think he said the demo he made lets you add users too but I could only play around with it for a couple of minutes.
