Geography quiz

Geography quiz

I introduce a new game to the exiting DreamHost discussion forums. Here it comes. I say a country in the world, and you say one neighbouring country. Example: I write USA then you say Mexico. Duplicates are not allowed! Countries have to border to each other by either land or sea. Let's see how geographically knowledged you guys are. I start with:

Iran

Hmmm. Turkmenistan only shares a direct water border with Azerbaijan (there is no land-based border), so that opens up a lot more possibilities. I'm going to stick with land-based borders for my responses.

Kazakhstan

Finland. If I recall correctly, Norway sweeps up to the north round the top of Sweden and borders Finland.

Since tobe put up the game, tobe should have the final word on interpreting rules.

Also, can a country be used more than once?

Anyway, then, just to keep it going, I will change my choice. The best exit route seems to be:

Germany

Question: How are we to define a sea border? Do the countries have to border the same named body of water or is it sufficient for them to border open ocean or sea (you know what I mean) or the same inland lake or sea. If the latter, does that mean that in response to a country with a seacoast, that we can name any other country with a seacoast (excepting the few cases of countries only bordering an inland sea)? For instance, in response to Finland, is the United States a valid answer to must we name a country bordering the Baltic Sea?

By sea border I mean a real borderline. Without "International Water" in between. And Finland and Germany do not share a border. But if you guys want we can try again, and this time we try to list ALL countries in the world. So we have to be careful not to lock ourself in. :) But maybe we should do it in a new threat??

A couple of fine points:
1. Are we going to observe 12-mile offshore borders or the 200 mile economic limit?
2. Can we use territories to continent jump?

If your goal is to cover all the countries, we'll have to have a backtracking mechanism to back us out of dead ends. (or we're going to have to have lots of threads!)

I think we stick to the 12 mile borders.

I suggest we use a "Joker" when meeting dead ends. Just sit on an air plane and fly your way out of it, TO A COUNTRY WITH THE SAME FIRST-LETTER. Like we ended up i Finland and I'm now on an plain to:

France
