There are websites dedicated to saying Dreamhost is the worst host in the world. Who takes them seriously? Has it had any affect on them becoming one of the biggest hosts in the world? Even Dreamhost laughs at them and has linked to them from their blog.
How many times have you heard someone blame Wal-mart for the downfall of society? I wonder why their parking lots are still full, around the clock, despite all the hatred? Maybe it's because the silent majority often ignores the noisy minority?
Someone that goes to that host today, is going to look at what they offer for the price and decide based on that. They're not going to care that you used to host there for free and don't think they should be allowed to charge.
If you really think it's a great idea, then roll with it. You don't need anyone's approval here. It just seems pretty obvious *to me* that it's a waste of time and you're not going to accomplish anything.
Like I said, every single host has people that hate them and whine about them where ever they go. If people took that crap seriously, all hosts would shut down because they all have people that hate them.
Knowing that, how do you expect your complaining about a once-free cheapo host to have any impact? Where's the payoff? If you just feel like venting, then you already accomplished that on your blog.
Also keep in mind that if you push too hard, they could push back. I'd say you're already pushing it with "FREEWEBDOT.COM is a criminal hosting provider in my opinion." -- even with the "in my opinion" part. I don't see any criminal behavior in what you've described.
Seriously, your biggest gripe with them seems to be that they stopped being free. It's not much different than people paying $22.40 for a year of hosting here, then getting hit with the $120 bill for the second year. It's very common to lure people in with freebies or special offers.
Sure, you know in advance with DH (though some seem to claim they didn't), but they also told you in advance and you had the option to leave then. You state right on your site that you paid because you didn't feel like moving. That was your choice. When a host makes a change you don't like, you leave. It's simple. Otherwise, you agree to their terms by staying.
