Does DreamHost provide dedicated plans in China? I've found a few options on 33Link China Mainland Dedicated Hosting, but would like to first get comparison of the plans. What are the options available in China?

I think all dreamhost's servers are in California, although they probably had some in Boston for a while.
According to
http://www.dreamhost.com/hosting-dedicated.html
you can rent one in California for only $395 per month, and no setup fee!
People around here say they can access them from China, one way or another.
The coupe de ville. Or something. ![]()

This question might be better addressed on the new users/prospective users forum. It might be even better if it were asked of DH directly since in the end they know all the answers. Kinda like a spouse. But cheaper.

If you don't know the answers, just don't say so, rlparker.
The customers always know best, except when Dallas says otherwise.

Sometimes I cannot figure out why you like to be hosted here. You spend a lot of your time making disparaging remarks about DreamHost and its employees. Did they wrong you, or something?

Go figure out a more positive reading of the statement you quoted. Not everything is as negative as you.

Yeah, congratulations ardco.
I didn't notice that you'd actually made it! ![]()
Hmmm... just checking my profile, 3 posts to go for me (well, 2 now). However, I am seriously considering changing my username here, meaning I would be back to scratch, arh well, it's just a title. ![]()

Say it ain't so, Mark, say it ain't so! People grow to depend on a persona they trust
.
On the other hand, if you did change your use name (after you reach DreamMaster!) you could always do it again. - I, for one, would rather see just a number of posts than such titles associated with a user - but the titles server the same purpose, and to each his own, YMMV, etc. ![]()

It's true I'm afraid. ![]()
I have been using the name 'Raz' since back in the early '80s. Well it started out as 'Razoo', as in 'Not worth a brass razoo', got shortened somewhere in the Amiga era and over the last couple of years I've added the '2133' (my CPU clockspeed at the time), simply to avoid the 'username is taken' error when signing up for forums etc.
Anyway, in short, I kind of figure its time for a change, I'll probably just use some variation of my real name.
In reply to:you could always do it again.
Hmmm... dual 'DreamMaster! title holder, now there's something to strive for. ![]()

2133 - was that in kilohertz?
Then mine would have been 1023 (bonus to the person that identifies that machine)

nope, it was MegaHertz, I only added the '2133' a couple of years ago. The CPU in question was an overclocked 1.6Ghz P4 Northwood.

Hmmm... 6502 CPU on an Apple II of some description?
I dimly recall the Commodore 64 having a 6510 at around 1.03Mhz, well at least it did for NTSC versions, I believe the PAL version was 'hobbled' to just below 1Mhz. ![]()

Hmm...
Sounds like ya'll would also drive around and
around in a parking lot just to get the spot
closest to the store.
Healthy people push their cart out to the spot
where their car will not get dented.

Those were the days, back when CPU clocks were tied to the screen refresh rate, thankfully those days are no longer. ![]()

You got me. Imagine how fast a cpu as simple as a 6502 could run using today's technology...
And you could understand all of it - everything on the system. But at 300 baud you could read everything going in and out too!
My connection to DH is 10x faster than my first hard disk (and second and third if I remember correctly)

These days they could probably fit a few thousand of them on a single die and run them at multiple Ghz.
It really is eye opening to step back and compare what we had then, to what we have now. My first real computer was a Sinclair ZX-80, consisting of a 1Mhz Zilog Z-80 CPU and a whopping 1KByte of RAM. To keep component cost down, they actually used the CPU to generate the video display, so you only got a display when the CPU was otherwise idle, as soon as you ran a program the display would blank. ![]()
As you said, in those days it wasn't too hard to *fully* understand the complete system, which was usually a requirement, as all good coding was done in machine code. I don't think any one person can *fully* understand every piece of todays machines, not with individual chips containing in excess of a hundred million transistors.
Gee, now I feel older than usual. ![]()
