DH irc has nothing to do with this forum, but thanks for sharing.

it is possible that there was a sort of wide-range ban (there must be a fancy name for it, but I don't know) that blocks an IP address range - like 192.168.1.*. They are sometimes put in place to keep spammers out who keep renewing their IP and logging in anonymously.
To get help your best bet is to log into the freenode server, then issue a /who #dreamhost (I think) and see who's listed with moderator status. You should then be able to pm them and ask for help. It's also possible to check on what bans have been put in place, and they are often commented - but I don't remember how to do that offhand you'll have to research it on your own - freenode.net has an FAQ I believe.

In reply to:it is possible that there was a sort of wide-range ban
Or it may just be that the mod/admin was having chatsex with some 48 year-old guy chatsquerading as 16 year-old girl and they didna wanna be disturbed by anyone.
/..but I aint volunteering to go into chat to find out. Ick.

I just looked at my log, and I think you are correct:
Mode #dreamhost b *!*@*.il.comcast.net by ****_BOFH
That might account for it - I just thought it was interesting that the OP post showed up about 15 minutes after this...![]()

Sorry Ryan, but there were valid reasons for banning you and attempting to "anonymously" post on a forum to request that the ban be removed is not the proper method.
Please keep in mind that the IRC channel is not an official DreamHost channel and access to it is a privilege, and not a right.

They just modified that wide block to make it more specific...you might try again?

That's what she said! Ha! Actually, lurking on IRC takes almost no time - and you can learn a lot!

So why lurk on IRC when dh has a chat tool turned on ? (I'm assuming IRC was first and DH just didn't think to leverage it.)

Oh, you don't want to go to the DreamHost chat channel - evil spammers hang out there!

IMHO, IRC has better peeps on there...many DH employees...better system...the java thing (chat tool) "sucks". I think I visited that once, and didn't like it. Of course, YMMV ![]()

Just one "Evil Spammer". He was actually quite helpful.
I was, of course, the comedic relief with absolutely no value whatsoever.
Has anyone seen my pants?

Hey, if they'd let me do it from here I'd be on it between having to do anything call related! I mean... ooops?
Yes, I have an opinion.
Get a minimum 50% off with the "haveadreamyday" promo code, and... have a dreamy day. Original, no?

I went there once (to the java chat channel) and spent an hour talking to myself. I think it was during what they call a slack period!
At least on IRC you see some amazing image links posted on peoples forums. After yesterdays escapade I am surprised that rlparker can still see! ![]()
And, now I see that pornographic images are appearing in the DreamHost blog! (If you save the image and then zoom in you can see the makers name on the trousers.)
