Reliability

Reliability

When I first started my account here, everything was great. I was extremely pleased with the speed of customer service and with the control panel and everything in general. Then the foo month happened, I kept my jaw tight and hoped the issues would be resolved. That took quite a while, but it has (supposedly) been figured out. Since then, my site has had up weeks and down weeks. I don't mean it has had entire weeks where it is down, just one week there are no problems, the next week it is going down several times, many days. Right now my gordaen.com sites are "blank," including subdomains. The site was down this morning for about 15 minutes also (no, that's not a lot, but it's also been blank for 1.5 hours).

Can I cash in all the features I don't care about (4395803945 gigs of space, files forever, etc.) for points toward more reliability? :(

I am just frustrated and needed to vent a bit...

It loads fine for me -- has this been resolved?

Is this the blank page problem you were having?

I had that same "blank page" problem too. Basically, every domain, subdomain, and file just returned a blank white screen (wasn't my comp, because others verified it). It seemed to resolve itself a short time later though.

Yeah, it was resolved a little after I posted that. A few hours later DH tech support let me know that someone had filled up the temp directory (they have no idea who) and that caused several domains to display nothing.

Heres my story:

I have been with Dreamhost for about 4 months. Things started fine because we had zero users and were just building our site. Our site is run on Ruby on Rails. Here were the problems I have faced:

1) Our system was way tooo sloooow with only 20 odd user hitting the site a day. DH's response was that we will kill the server and restart Apache!!!!

2) The next time round when our traffic bumped up to 40 uniques a day, the server was sloow as hell. We asked them to port us to another machine. Which they did, but guess what the guy who did it forgot the last couple of steps and just left the server move half done. Can you believe that - they didnt even confirm if the site was backup!!!!!!

3) Our SVN and Trac has been down for at least 11 hours now and I have sent in 2 requests as our engineers cant check in any code. I am still waiting to hear back from them. I cant believe DH is used by too many people.
