new power source?

new power source?

Thank you, DH, for keeping us informed via the status url during the power outage yesterday. Great job!

Maybe this is a bit far-fetched, but how 'bout switching to solar power? A little money each month could be socked away towards the equipment, and once up and running it wouldn't matter if the regular power went out around the globe. It would be a draw for environmental-health-minded clients as well.

Even better, why not power your equipment with an artificial quantum singularity, like the Romulans do in their D'deridex class warbirds? I mean let's face it, dilithium is so passé nowadays. Yeah, the singularity is the way to go - oodles of power with little or no overhead.

You're funny.

The protective layer of smog between us and the burning globe in the sky pretty much prevents this. (Oh and our amp requirements :)

On first read, that sounded funny. But just to check, the smog can't be near that bad there, can it?

As far as power needs, I know that some webhosts run on solar. So it isn't impossible. Just might be too far out there either financially, location-wise or for whatever other reason for DH.

It was just meant to be funny. You do kind of miss it though when you go someplace with clean air, I don't trust air I can't see, smell, or taste.

While using clean energy would be nice, I don't think we could cram enough cells onto our buildings roof, not to mention they likely use it for other things. We do have some pretty dense power requirements right now, between our few hundred servers, HVAC, lighting, etc. Plus, it can get pretty gloomy in sunny california during the rainy season, which would definitly require grid power.
