DreamHost Sucks

I'm being constantly attacked by the Klez virus--DreamHost even "mentioned" to me in a reply that traffic about the issue has been on the rise. Well. Here's the story: I can't get a single email. Not a single one addressed to my main domain: "aisllc.com" Why? Well, as far as I can tell, it's because they don't want to offer a "value-added" service that will filter out aggressive viruses like Klez. Oh, and as I'm typing this? My McAfee service just indicated that my email client (Eudora 5.1.1) is trying to download yet another virus from the DreamHost server. IT'S NOT ABOUT A SINGLE FILE THAT *WAS* DOWNLOADED, SEE, BECAUSE MCAFFEE REFUSES TO DOWNLOAD *ANY* VIRUSES. IT'S ABOUT THE FACT THAT DREAMHOST REFUSES TO FILTER OUT KLEZ VIRUSES IN THE FIRST FOOOOOING PLACE. I CAN'T GET ANY MAIL, AND DREAMHOST DOESN'T GIVE A FOOOOOING RIP. IT'S ABUSIVE...

I do generally try to stay out of this sort of thread (especially since I'm obviously biased).

In this case, I have a few comments.

1) Please don't post the same comment / question (of any type) in several different sections of the forum. This is plain rude. While we won't remove threads for talking smack about our company, it's very likely we'll remove posts which are repeated in several different sections of the forum.

2) Saying that we suck for not providing a service we have never provided, and don't claim to provide seems a bit silly. If this is an important service for you to have Right Now, perhaps it would be a good idea to switch providers.

3) While I post here in a somewhat "official" capacity, taking a comment posted here as an indication of DreamHost's policy, or expecting me to provide you with a complete answer / solution to your problem in this forum doesn't seem very fair.

4) If there were an effective and practical solution which would enable us to prevent customers from receiving spam and / or viruses, we'd certainly do so -- and we'd probably be making a pile of money. We generally prefer to err on the side of not risking loss of legitimate mail for our customers.

Complaining about your virus load is akin to 'killing the messenger' (Dreamhost). Get a grip - the reason you're getting viruses is usually more due to:

1) having your email floating around on the web - signing up for contests etc.

2) having your email on your web site without encrypting it.

In other words - protect your email address the best you can, and have anti-virus software on your computer and last but not least - don't open any .exe's like a moron. It's not Dreamhost's fault that you get crappy email. I get 100 spams a day on my Hotmail and I don't bitch to Microsoft about it.
