dotmac worth it?

I just made the switch to an ibook and love it. I know there's a lot of mac users here.

Does anyone use dotmac and think it's worth it? I just tried it and so far it has not been a good experience. I wasn't even sure if it was worth it if it worked great.

With all my space at dreamhost, is there an easy way to back up my info here? Or would it be to simply ftp my home directory to my webspace?

wow, I have been with macintosh since its inception. (I even have the macintosh logo tatood on my ankle...lol, I can hear the hecklers now.) But I have never heard of dotmac. I guess I need to do more research.

Is it like vpn access? just curious, since you mention the backing up your files at dreamhost. Is it like RAID?

just curious.

.Mac ( http://www.mac.com ) is worth it for the freebies and goodies (usually exceeds $100 worth of freebies and goodies per year), but that's about it. Other than that, I just use my iDisk as another backup source for my site.

.mac .... oh, and I got so excited! lol

I use RAID and have the scheme set up to mirror. But, an outside source (ie VPN access through dreamhost) would be better : )

I mean if my office burned down...the mirror would be useless unless I put that drive in a firebox. I am still trying to figure out if DH is offering Nortels mac clients for macintosh users.

anyone on a mac use vpn here?

.Mac will automate some things, but if you've got a DH account and do a little footwork, you can do the same here.

I've been with .Mac for a couple of years now and I have enjoyed the iDisk feature for a while, but considering how slow it can be sometimes, and the limitations of disk space and lack of PHP support have driven me to purchase space with DreamHost. So far I have already had a few Error 500 messages but for the most part my email has been working and prompt but I have gotten pretty annoyed at the Error 500 messages. Hopefully they don't happen too often.

Curtdog, check your server error log the next time you see a 500 error. It will shed more light on what's happening, and 99% of time it's solved by upgrading whatever PHP script you're running.
