My wav file smaller than mp3?

In my site http://vernsdidj.com the first page, or index, has a wav file that plays 1 time through. I put it in using frontpage and it works very very well. However, I have other sound files I would rather put in it's place, but to make a uncompressed wav from a MP3 makes them HUGE! Any ideas on how I can get similar small sound file like this *.wav file, that might work on the site? It is intersting that this .wav file sounds as good as it does since it is so small in bytes. MP3 files are compressed, and that might be a problem with someone using a browser with unsuppored mp3 in it.
