I have an installation of Zen Cart running. It was very easy to set up indeed.

I personally prefer Cubecart to Zen cart. Version 3 is free and fully functional, but with a copyright notice. It does costs to remove the notice.

Of course there is also os-commerce, which I personally find very difficult and untidy, so I cannot recommend it.

I would just try both cube & zen cart and see which one you prefer.

Nope.

The installation was for development purposes, so it isn't actually in use as a cart. I documented my installation process (although using generic information) in my DreamHost Wiki user namespace.

If you used zen-cart did you have to write an .htaccess file to alter the php settings or did you install your own instance of php within your domain? i've been experimenting with an .htaccess file and failing but i'm curious what everyone else had done.

I have not done any further work beyond the initial installation, so I'm still working with the ugly default URLs, etc.

I'm currently using VirtueMart, an amazing Joomla! shopping component.

Another hosting I recommend.
