Can I install Miva THEN set up merchant account?

Hi all.
I was reading on the Knowledge base that you needed a merchant account before setting up Miva Merchant, but that doesn't make sense because you have to be able to change that info if you decide to change credit processing companies. I'm designing a site for someone else and they want to start entering their products while they're figuring out which merchant they want. Can I go ahead and install Miva and set up the merchant account later?
