IN SHORT:

The dreamhostapps.com contains a lying on pages such as http://www.dreamhostapps.com/free-wordpress-hosting.html that says "Automatic WordPress upgrades".

I don't known how it works on the country that DreamHost is stablished, but on the contry that I live (Brazil) this is known as "propaganda enganosa" (misleading advertising) and results from 3 months to one year of arrest plus a big money amercement.

I known that DreamHost Apps is a free service and is still in testing phase. But if this server really wants to attract new paid users within this free service, YOU MUST STOP SAYING LYNGS TO YOUR USERS!

Please remove any "Automatic {software name} upgrades" from your promo pages or try to follow yours own words. At this moment, DreamHost Apps is failing.

Yes, the Security update required! keeps asking for an update

Hey DH, just give us ftp access so we can upload the files
our self :)

okay, not ... But I hope you soon make the Security update required! for the cms - yes Drupal screams for it !

Other then that, seems to work great !

I think the sad truth is that Dreamhost Apps has been abandoned. They probably laid off whoever was working on it.

I'm working on the logistics of transferring my site out of this service. It's a disgrace.

I hate to say it to you guys but it's a sad fact of life that you get what you pay for. If you were really wanting to have reliable services that were as up-to-date as possible you should pay for hosting and update it yourself. I really can't even fathom the usefulness of dh apps considering you cannot make custom themes etc and you don't have access to any of the files to load custom modules.

And as far as the poster who wanted an ftp account, the whole point of the apps stuff is that the files are stored in a central location. That's why everyone has the same version and same themes, etc as everyone else. You really can't expect to get something like that if you don't pay for hosting.

I signed up for DH Apps because part of their pitch is that they will keep the service up to date. They haven't done this. They promoted the hell out of it, then they left it to rot.

you guys are being pretty melodramatic. couple that with a vivid imagination and a penchant for conspiracy theories and you get this thread. you might find occam's razor a useful tool. try a thread like: "hey I noticed that 'x' software has an update which includes an important security fix, I know you guys are super busy creating great services for us, but if you could upgrade it when you get a chance that would be great." And we'll be like, "hey that guy is pretty cool." and the internet will suck less.

Ah, and the coverup begins wink

I learned long ago that conspiracy theorists can never be convinced since conspiracies have an impenetrable shroud of secrecy.

I think a more productive approach would be: "Hey Michael, how come Apps WordPress never got upgraded to 2.7.1?"
Then a week later, "Hey Michael, how come Apps WordPress never got upgraded to 2.7.1?
Then a month later, "Hey Michael, how come Apps WordPress never got upgraded to 2.8?

Really, some things here are a mystery. I understand that DH doesn't want to publicly commit to timelines on features, but if someone in Support has explained why some stuff isn't the latest version, that info hasn't made it to the status blog or the forums.

well the reason is pretty simple, DreamHost is a huge system with tons of software. as new stuff comes out issues get created in the issue tracker. then that issue will be handed out to a developer or admin and it will show up in their issue queue. Advanced one-clicks are usually updated first as they are in wider use for instance.

There is no conspiracy theory. The dreamhostapps.com have misleading advertising, and as I've said this in my country is a delict.

Before starting this thread I've done a search on this forum and I've found LOTS of previous requests for information regarding updates to the service from weeks to months ago. Some of them don't have any message with a reply. In fact, getting no reply is best than getting reply from some "yes-man" guys.

Look at the facts at the start of this thread. Softwares with no single updates for MONTHS. And the service says that the updates are performed as part of the FREE service.

If you really want to read a "melodramatic" paranoiac message, there is one: "OMFG I HAVE SET TO GET REPLIES ON MY REAL EMAIL ADDRESS BUT I DIND'T RECEIVED NO ONE!!!!111111oneone oneo one!!". =P

Dreamhostapp's.com panel says that feedback must be sent to this forum and I've sent feedback there. Sending a message that easily can be changed or deleted by any forum admin is a paranoid reaction? I don't think so.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallacy must be interesting to get studied by some guys, specially for those that don't helps to discover the reasons for the apparent abandonment of this service.

Fortunately I known best FREE hosting services that allows me to keep the softwares that runs my website updated and running with any extension/add-on that I need. But I'll keep a dormant account open here, just in case if someone fromthe devel team remembers to check the RSS feeds/mailling lists containing the softwares updates announcements.

In reply to:

Since you enjoy giving us example posts of how we should be conversing with DH, let me give you an example of how you can converse with us:

"Hey guys. I know you're probably wondering when we're going to get around to updating Wordpress on our DH Apps platform. Well, here's the situation: <insert situation here.>

Now that we've told you guys whats going on, imaybe you'll be more relaxed."
