Change App Location/Subsubdomain

Change App Location/Subsubdomain

Hi,

I would like to make my "blog" app as my main "www" app so that when visitors type in "name.dreamhosters.com" it will take them to my WordPress app (blog.name.dreamhosters.com) rather than my Drupal app (www.name.dreamhosters.com). Mind that I have already created my account with all apps installed, and attempted to delete the Drupal app. What other steps can I take to achieve this?

Thanks,
Arjun

Do you have a hosting plan here? And is this the Hosted apps setup?

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the reply, and sorry for the late response.
Yes I have the free hosting plan at http://www.dreamhostapps.com. I would like it so that when visitors go to http://username.dreamhosters.com it will show up my WordPress blog, rather than my Drupal app. I noticed an option to change the subdomains during registration, but I've since passed that step and wondering if I may be able to change the "blog" subdomain to "www". Would this be possible?

Please let me know if this wasn't clear enough.

Thanks,
Arjun

Anyone got an idea? Would really appreciate it.

The free hosting plan doesn't give you many (if any) options for fixing this. One-Clicks don't allow for moving an installation. Those with paid hosting have some options, such as redirects and forcing a path change on the server.

So the answer is "no." The best you'd be able to do is back up your blog entries and start again.

Thanks Scott.
On that note however, if I delete my account, will my username be made available so that I could recreate an account with the same username? Just curious, because another service I tried this with didn't give me that ability.

I don't know if usernames get freed up when they're deleted. I wouldn't count on it, but if you do delete, it may take days (or much longer) before it frees up. Or it may be immediately available. So your guess is as good as mine.

Got it!
Went to WordPress, exported posts, comments, etc., removed the WordPress service, reinstalled the WordPress service where I was asked to optionally put a sub-subdomain for the blog. Took out the default "blog", and it, of course, defaulted to "www", exactly what I was looking for!
That's to anyone else who's looking to do something similar. :)

Thanks a lot Scott, you've helped tremendously!
