can't login using ftp i get 530 error

I have a site at missingcord.com , its hosted by dreamhost. I recently tried to add Google checkout to my site , i use zencart. I couldn't get the install to go right. I tried copying back over my website from a backup , to the server again.

I left for work and when i come back i find my site now shows a blank page and i get this error in my ftp client

[2/10/2009 11:49:12 PM] 530 Sorry, the maximum number of hosts (7) for this user are already connected.


How can i force disconnect the other host ? Also i only have 1 user account, are the 7 host failed connects while i was gone ?

Use SFTP to connect to avoid any limits.

Try out WinSCP in SFTP mode.

how do i enable sftp ? Is it somthing i need to do in Cpanel ?

You can setup each user's access (FTP only, SFTP/SSH, etc.)

Panel > Users > Manage Users

- Click Edit next to the username

- Select the User Account Type you'd like:

.. FTP account - file transfer access only.
.. SFTP account - sftp (SSH ftp) file transfer access only.
.. Shell account - allows SFTP/FTP plus ssh access.

- Hit the Save Changes button.

Considering you hold a (paid for) webhosting account at DreamHost, in future you might get faster advice to any questions by posting in a place other than the freely provided DreamHostApps section of this discussion board. This part has been setup for the guys using the free stuff and they have no user access to files, etc. We wouldn't want to confuse anyone
