This is confusing.

Is it free to register domain there?

Free to host the domain in DH means nothing. Most of the web server providers offer this for free. You can change DNS anytime.

What is this post trying to say?

DreamHost is offering a year free L1 web hosting plan with unlimited domain transfers in for domains registered at RegisterFly.

It's obviously good to get a year of hosting free. The free domain transfer is a benefit because people would otherwise be required to renew domains transferred in for an extra year.

Remember, we usually talk about redirecting the nameservers at the original registrar. In this case, the registrar itself is imploding and so those poor RegisterFly folks need to actually change their registrar.

It's a bad situation but it's good to see DreamHost creating a valuable option for the beleaguered RegisterFly customers.

ok. I got the point now.

If somebody register a domain in ReigsterFly, the person will get a free one-year L1 plan in DH. It is great!

It means transfer your domains out of there quickly. wink

I logged in and saw the same thing. I believe it's internal defacement, rather than an outsider hacking in.

Great promo!

Bummer that it doesn't extend in some way to existing DreamHost customers, though. I moved 20 domains over to DreamHost from RegisterFly prior to the promo, and I just initiated my last 2 transfers today. And the transfer cost me over $200 ($9.95 each.)

But you know, it's OK, because I've been with DreamHost since August 2005 and they have been solid, reliable, and responsive. Small price to pay for peace of mind.

It's money out of your pocket but you can console yourself that you've registered them for an additional year. smile

Yup, I know, so it's not a big deal. In fact, I actually got REALLY lucky, because my DH "Rewards" account had accumulated just over $250 over the past year-and-a-half that I did not know about...I never bothered to check it! So it, in effect, paid for itself. (Yes, people, Rewards CAN work!)
