It's about time; Why didn't DH do this first? :-)

About Dreamlinux

"Dreamlinux is a Brazilian distribution based on Debian, Knoppix and Morphix. A live CD with a graphical hard disk installation option, it boots directly into an XFce desktop which provides access to a good collection of desktop applications and a central control panel for system configuration."

Given the name and the fact that the DreamHost guys seem to like Debian, it would have been a natural partnership. :)

Have you tried the distribution yet? If so, how does it compare to Ubuntu/Kubuntu for general desktop use?

Hmmm.. I just checked out the distribution homepage and it seems to resemble OSX, at least superficially. Also, it seems to be primarily (only?) for Portuguese speakers.

I guess I should download the distribution and check it out myself. :)

Thanks for the heads up.

Their home page is only Portuguese speakers, but the dist is aviable in english and Portuguese.

Is this the future dist for Dreamhost's servers? probably not, but it's a fun thought.

Not yet; downloading now. Ubuntu is the best for desktop, but this one has a cool name too. :-)

for english users:

In the first edition ( Standard Edition ) Dreamlinux priorizes the language Portuguese_BR. But it can be, after installed in your HD, used with English Language, it just have to be indicated in MCP Control Panel. Running through CD, the choice of english language can be done through the options in Grub screen.

The Studio Edition version contains, therefore the programs finded in the standard version, a lot of applicatives for especific use in the video, sound and webdesign {Nvu + ?} edition. This edition exists in two versions: english and portuguese. Choose in the download page.

Thanks for the info, I missed the small English section on the homepage (I didn't scroll down far enough:)

Yeah, it is. I guess if you strip the desktop from DreamLinux you would end up with straight Debian, which DreamHost is already using.

Me too. :)

But things are fairly busy here, so I probably won't get around to having a good look at it for a few days.
