sites unavailable

Over the last two weeks, my domains continue to become unavailable anywhere from 5 minutes to over an hour (it's happened about 5 or 6 times now). I've only been with Dreamhost for about a month - is this normal? There is nothing on the status page about an outage, but it continues to happen.

I left a message for dreamhost support, but I haven't gotten anything back yet.

Oh - I cannot shell, or FTP either - it's almost like the server with my sites on it is down.

I have also been experiencing periodic site downtime. As a new customer I am growing quite concerned. I'm not sure if I can risk waiting to see if these issues will be less frequent in the future.
