Silly mistake?

Silly mistake?

Did you notice in the June newsletter that the new referral method has changed? Josh writes that you could link to "http://www.dreamhost.com/rewards.cgi?josh/shared/features.html" but in fact if you do you'll get:

Not Found
The requested URL /shared/features.html was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Embarrassing!

Perhaps he only meant to use that URL as an example of the format, not that the target URL is a valid URL. The important thing is that the redirect works.

Ha, whoops!

It should have been /panel/, not /shared/!

I made them both work now in case anybody else actually reads the newsletter..

Just a quick question: I have been thinking of linking to http://whois.dreamhost.com all along, how can I do that? Thanks.

http://www.dreamhost.com/rewards.cgi?YOURWEBID/whois

will do it (I just made that work.. note there's no / at the end)!

How about linking to somewhere like:

https://panel.dreamhost.com/kbase ?

and

both go to http://www.dreamhost.com/panel/kbase

and give 404-error.

Thanks, Josh. That is great!

But then when I look up domains over at whois.dreamhost.com, it doesn't seem to be working. Does it mean that it only searches domains that use DreamHost AS THE REGISTRAR? Not even dreamhost.com which is with Network Solutions?

That was the case!

But now it'll look up all domains and tell you either "available", "taken - registered elsewhere", or "taken - registered with dreamhost" and give you the whois output!
