why am i not getting SPAM reports?

i know this is still in beta but is there a reason why i'm not getting any SPAM reports sent to my email account. i've been testing the new beta filter at home, i get my reports and everything else works great. after trying it out at home i figured to test it out on my work domain before using it on my clients. it works great at work but no one has received a junk mail report yet. everyone is set to receive it daily but so far we haven't received anything.

i know others here are experiencing the same issue.

Been a few of us not getting these. You have checked your settings and making sure that you should be getting the reports :-) Including what frequency you are getting them??

If all of this is correct then I suggest you open up a support call on this issue..

yes and yes. like i said, my i get the reports for my personal domain on my own dreamhost account but not on my companies domain on a different dreamhost account.

i will send support an email to see what they have to say. i was hoping because this is in beta and dreamhost wants us to test it and wants our feedback that they would communicate a little more in this forum. i feel like i am talking to and nobody is listening.

Maybe Nate is buried with work right now? Trying to debug the problem so he can give an answer? Or on vacation. :-) He hasn't been heard from here in over a couple weeks.

Don't fret; people are listening, but may not have answers. Would you feel better if they said, "we don't know, but we'll let you know?"

We're here, we are reading these messages.

I believe Nate does know the reason why this is happening (he gave me a quick summary earlier). It has something to do with people changing email addresses but not updating their preferences, or something like that.

Can y'all see if going in and updating your preferences (even if you change it back to something else) helps?

In my case, it could be that I jumped the gun after turning on the filtering and tried to access the options before things were set up. I remember getting some strange error at first.

I've changed the report frequency preference, to see if that helps.

Where do you specify WHERE the reports are sent?

I tried changing the frequency of reports from every day to weekdays, and still haven't received a report. So it didn't make a difference here.

"I suggest you open up a support call on this issue"

some good that did me, i opened up a support call 8 DAYS AND 20 HOURS ago and haven't heard ANYTHING.... good to see that dreamhost is on top of support calls.

I can't speak for DH here, but I'll bet that either they're working on this glitch or they plan on it as soon as possible. With this being a test, we should expect some wrinkles that need ironing out. It's not like the tried-and-true, established features just yet, although it's generally been working great for me. Probably just takes some time, patience and fine tuning.

They've told me they're still working on it. I have a support issue for one of my users with the same problem and it's been open for (I haven't looked lately) but I'd bet it's 3-4 weeks by now....

I'm just being patient....

Not exactly Business @ the Speed of Thought, but maybe that's ok. And it is Beta. :-)

Since it is out of beta, I'm wanting to know about this too. No reports for my account either, although everything else is still working perfectly. Would be nice to just know for sure what's up. Are there any plans to either fix it or to not feature this feature? :)

Not from DH, but my reports are going to the spam box, due to their contents.

Yeah - we need to make sure we whitelist our own IP ranges and our own spam reports...

Well, my support issue about not getting spam reports on one of my addresses (paul AT rassi DOT com) was closed as it neared the 2 month mark, but it hasn't actually been resolved....

Is anyone still working on this problem?

I finally fixed this. For good I'm pretty sure. It was an obscure bug. I am 100% certain that they work for you, rassi.

I'll send an announcement later to everybody using the Junk Filter later!

My apologies for the long time to fix.

nate.

How is the recipient email address chosen? They previously went to our main user, but now go to a seemingly random address (with different forwarding)?

"How is the recipient email address chosen? They previously went to our main user, but now go to a seemingly random address (with different forwarding)?"

i came here to find an answer about that myself. it seems all of my junk mail reports decided to just change what alias they are sent to. maybe there is a mix up with mailboxes that have multiple addresses....

As I understand it, they go to one of the addresses pointing to the mailbox the spam report is for. It just picks one... I don't think there's a way to specify which one shows up as the recipient. If you are seeing a case where a mailbox is receiving another user's spam reports, definitely forward us an example with full headers.

In reply to:

It just picks one

1)
It's one thing where a report is sent: I guess if it's sent to 'any address that ends up in the mailbox' then it would work. Yes, I correctly get junk mail reports for caught mail on forward-only addresses, and these reports end up in the forward-to mailbox. Does this prove that the original DH scheme works as intended, at least for some (my) domains?

2)
It's another matter for which address the report is in the first place: If the filter doesn't work per mailbox but per address, and if only mailboxes have a webmail login, then how can you release mail that's caught on forward-only addresses? This is a serious problem. See also:
- support ticket #932210: 'Spam reports for addresses without mailboxes' (22 Nov 2004) and
- Forum post (05 Aug 2004).
