How do I .htaccess a dir so that it is password protected? I was told I might be able to do this from the panel.

From the panel you should be able to go Goodies -> Htacces/WebDAV. It will ask you for which domain you want to create the protected directory and then you can configure who can have access.

Its under Goodies htaccess/webdav.

Choose the domain then which folder you want to set the htaccess under.

you can set up usernames and control hotlinking.
