Google ranking query

I read, in another post, that having a DreamhostPS can help with Google ranking.

Although I use DreamhostPS, multiple sites are still hosted on one IP address, as it was with shared hosting (both being http/1.1), so how can it be beneficial?

Many thanks

It wouldn't make a difference, shared or PS, unique IP or shared IP.

Wikipedia.org isn't on a unique IP and it seems to be doing okay in Google. wink

And here's a reference from Slashdot's 2003 interview of Craig Silverstein, Google's Director of Technology:

In reply to:

I can't just deny it? What are my other choices? [:)] Actually, Google handles virtually hosted domains and their links just the same as domains on unique IP addresses. If your ISP does virtual hosting correctly, you'll never see a difference between the two cases. We do see a small percentage of ISPs every month that misconfigure their virtual hosting, which might account for this persistent misperception--thanks for giving me the chance to dispel a myth!
