Suspended account

Suspended account

My account was closed about 6 days ago. Since then I've sent 5 support requests through the control panel and I haven't received a single response.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can contact them? At the moment, I can't even transfer my domains because the email on my whois entry isn't working :(

really feel sad for you.

1. try to send a "OMG EXTREMELY CRITICAL EMERGENCY" ticket via the DH web panel.

2. if yours is not level 1 plan, you should have a contract no of DH support. Try to call them

I have no more idea other than these :(

Yep, I already tried the OMG Urgent support request, but got nothing back.

Nope, I don't have any phone support.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Did DreamHost send you an email about this? What reason did they give for the suspension?

Well my email isn't working ... so I don't know if they sent me something or not.

Why would the reason for suspending my account affect DH responding to support requests?

Well if your account is suspended, you are not eligible for the benefits of that account. So what kind of site did you have? Did you have any content people might interpret as not legal?

Fair enough. So how do I contact them then?

I mainly used dreamhost for email and photo galleries. I hardly think this would be illegal.

Possible reasons for suspended account:

1) Did you pay your bill?
2) Was all your content legal? (child porn, copyright infringment, etc)
3) Were you spamming?
4) Using too many resources (badly coded gallery?)
5) Any other Terms of Service violations?

..plus other possibilities, but those are the most likely. You contact them via the control panel by filing a support ticket. They will either get around to contacting you, or they will ignore you; you know the circumstances involving your account and we do not, so *you* are in a lot better position to guess which way DH will handle your support requests. wink

Well it looks like they're ignoring me.

Does this mean there's no way to contact them?

How can I transfer my domains, if the email address in the whois information doesn't work anymore?

It would also be helpful if you answered the questions that were raised in the message before yours :)

Yep - paid 2 year in advance, with 21 months to go.

In reply to:

No child porn. Don't think I infringed copyright

In reply to:

Were you spamming?

Don't think so.

In reply to:

It was static HTML. I might've used up a bit of space and bandwidth, but no where near the allowable limits.

In reply to:

Any other Terms of Service violations?

Aparently so ... just don't know what I did to piss them off.

If you filed a support ticket in the usual manner, DreamHost should really have responded by now. Can you give us an example URL?

Yes they should ... I a little dumbfounded. I just don't know what to do.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by example URL. I filed the support request using https://panel.dreamhost.com/index.cgi?tree=support.msg&

I mean what was the address of one of your suspended sites (yourdomain.com)

www.kjdomain.com

I have been unable to find your site in Google cache or Archive.org, so it is impossible for me to see what might have been DreamHost's reason for suspending your account.

I can sympathize with your dilemma if your account is suspended AND your email isn't working. It could be that support replies aren't getting to your control panel but they are getting to your email... Is there any way of getting your email working?

When you say your account is suspended, does that mean that some domains have been disabled? Is it your whole account that's been shut down?

If so, it's a wonder that the control panel works at all...

Is everything ok in the billing section?

In my support tickets I've been using a yahoo address.
I can't think of any way to get my domain email address working.

I guess its a good lesson for me, not to put down my domain address in the whois entry.

In reply to:

Looks like the whole account is shutdown.
webmail.kjdomain.com works, but I can't get log in.

I can see my old support messages in the support history, but everything else is missing - domains, registrations, users, groups, etc.

In reply to:

I can't see anything obvious to indicate a problem with the billing.

I'm not so sure it is actually suspended. It looks more like an error to me. Weird.

Well, generally speaking, it's a little hard to understand how you couldn't now "for sure" in each of those cases; the "Don't think" part kinda leads me to believe you recognize the possibility of one or more of those issues being involved in your situation. wink

That said, I have never known DH to not provide an explanation for what, if any , action they have taken. I *do* imagine that in a case where they consider the problem to be both obvious and serious, that they may refer it to legal review before responding, and we *are* "early in the week".

If you keep sending tickets, they should eventually respond - without knowing what was on your site, or how it was being utilized, all we can do is guess as to the circumstances. I'm wondering what makes you think the account is "suspended" if you received no notification of that. There are other reasons that can be involved with why you can't manage your site. Only DH knows for sure.

It's pretty unusual that the webmail address is even reachable if the "whole account is shutdown"; I'm not so sure I would assume the account is actually closed.

Are you absolutely certain you are not logged in as a user that has limited privileges? Confusion over which user and credentials you are using could account for some of what you are seeing between webmail login and information missing from the panel.

Of course, it could be that your account is just "borken" also; as I said before: Only Dreamhost can tell for sure at this point. I just mentioned the user thing as it *could* be relevant, and is something else you can investigate while waiting to a response from support.

Also, were you "sharing" this account with anyone else who might have had panel access and could have changed things around on you?

It is showing one of those annoying "bad_httpd_conf" errors, which may indicate there's some life in it. Are you able to use FTP?
