You're talking about between DH's and custom compiled PHP5. No, no difference. They are both setup the same way. The only difference would be in that you control the PHP5 version and configuration in the custom compiled version.

There's no differnece in speed or preformance. Obviously if you compile your self, or just use use your own php.ini file you have control over a few more things than with the default.
