subdomain redirect

Hm, thought I posted but I don't see it.

I am moving a domain to dreamhost. I have stored the site in a subdomain. I want the site to redirect to it while I build on root. So,

www.domain.com should point at version.domain.com.

I went to the panel and added a record with the ip for version.domain.com under domain.com. Will that work, is that all I have to do? I see www listed as one of the uneditable records...i made my new record a type a....is there anything else? :/

I don't know enough about dns record yet, but I heard that what you want to do should be possible.
Another alternative is to add a htaccess file in the root of the main directory, that will redirect traffic to the sub domain.
So the file would look something like:

Redirect temporary /index.html http://www.subdomain.example.com/index.html
