MySQL Administrator

Hi all,

is it possible to use MySQL Administrator with Dreamhost?

I saw it mentioned here and I've used MySQL Admin but it was ages ago and it was a localhost when I was learning this stuff

if I add my home PC do I just put my IP address or do I put the full lot in MyIP.MyHost.com or does it not matter?

what do I put in the MySQL Administrator fields?

Port:
Username:
Password:
Schema:

Some of the questions you've asked you should be able to figure out yourself pretty easily.

As for adding your PC, add the IP address. When you add a host, you'll see a message along the lines of "Your current computer is: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx". Use that IP.

Rest of the info is obvious; Server name, that's the hostname. Port, leave that default. Username, the username you created. Password, the password. Schema would be the database.

I don't think you would be able to use anything other than the phpmyadmin. I have tried using MySQL administrator and a few other programs. The server is dbname.yoursite.com though. Just put in the user and password that you created for it. While I can log into the database, I can't do anything useful like even look at the tables and alter them. I guess DH doesn't like remote access of any kind maybe :-/.

yep, I tried the obvious but it didn't work. That's why I just listed them all just in case I didn't do it properly and I didn't as it was the dbname.yoursite.com I got wrong :)

I can login but nothing much more as mentioned

maybe I'm missing something as why is it mentioned that you can use MySQL Amdmin in this link?

I use SQLyog for my remote administrating all the time and DBDesigner for designing DBs.

I know you can use remote applications. There's just something screwy with your all's setup. I'll have to download MySQL Administrator and check it out then. There's absolutely no reason why it wouldn't work.

Oh, I see what you're saying. Yeah, I don't know why it's listed either. It's definately for MySQL server administration, not database administration.

Try SQLyog. That's a good program. I use it myself.
