Index.html now Forbidden

Ok, so I uploaded my index.html a few weeks ago for my site. The page went up and all was fine. Then I made some changes (just in the text, really, not with any HTML) and suddenly I started getting this error when I would visit the main page: Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /index.html on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
I thought that I must have somehow messed up the file, so I went back and replaced the new index.html with a backup of the old index.html. I still get the same error, even with the old file back in place. Any idea how to fix this? I've got no clue.
