Hosting expiration + renew domain

Hi
Ive got one question.. ive created acc on dreamhost one year ago.. with free domain.. tomorrow my hosting expire... i have +10$ balance on my acc ( dreamhost gave me that i think :) )
so heres a question.. can i somehow close my acc and in the same time renew my domain with that money? or when i close my acc my domain are lost too?.. i just want to keep my domain.. but not hosting on dreamhost.. can i do that somehow? if so could someone explain me how?
