Hi!

I registered a new shell user and that user has no problems using ssh or ftp. Where is htdoc home for such a user (within her /home/my_user tree), and at which address one can access it from the big wide world (http://my.domain/(what?)) ?

Thanks!

You add a domain or subdomain for the new user via Panel.

Domains > Manage Domains > Add New Domain / Sub-Domain

Fill in the domain.com (or [sub].domain.com) that you want to give the user.

There's a spot saying FTP user / CGI-runs-as user: with a dropdown box right next to it. Just select your user's username there.

The domain will show up as a "domain.com" folder in the user's ftp. Everything in there is the www bit wink

Acces via http://domain.com (or http://sub.domain.com if you've setup a subdomain)

Tip: A handy test for a 1st-try is to create a domain called [blahblah].dreamhosters.com
Use something random where the [blahblah] bit is.

Good luck! smile

Ah, that was easy! Thanks!

I later found even easier way, via subdir remapping. Now it works both ways. (I was used on other hosting sites to this kind of mapping being automatic; this is moreflexible.)

Cheers!

Yes, remapping is great! It's especially handy to give a "shared" user account access to one particular folder (eg. a theme directory) on an already provisioned domain, allowing multiple people to access a folder while retaining file security for the rest of the domain.
