Problem - wordpress one click install. Any ideas?

Hi people.
I've had a problem (most likely user error) whilst trying to set up wordpress on a domain.

I'd just set up my account here, asked the person that looks after our domains to point the domain at the dreamhost nameservers, then began the advanced one click install for wordpress.

I went through the process- it seemed to work ok, however when i clicked the link to wp-admin in the 'Successful install' email, I got nowhere.

I left this overnight, however when I came back the next day, same result.
(Probably wrongly) I assumed there was an issue and attempted to uninstall wordpress, once using the webpanel and a second time using FTP. When doing it through FTP I was unable to delete one directory folder which was wp-content or something like that.

I got fed up trying and have deleted everything, including the domain from the host. however if I log in by FTP i can still see the directory ad subfolders.

I just want to start from scratch again now, so does anyone have any suggestions. Am I just being too impatient and not allowing time for propagation? How long should I wait after a 'successful install' before I can expect to access the wordpress admin?

Sorry for all the questions, but if anyone could give even the smallest bit of advice, I'd be hugely grateful.

Via the control panel submit a support ticket and expalin, as you have here, what has happened. Ask them to remove any remaining bits of wordress and the subdomain you tried to install into.

Then try reinstalling it again. Very rarely things can go wrong so you may be more successful a second time round.

I would use a different name for the database just to make things are okay.

Are you using easy mode or advanced mode?

I'd submitted a support ticket although I didn't ask them to remove any remaining bits of wordpress. I'll do that now.
And I'll use a different name for the database on my next attempt just in case.

I've been using advanced mode to do the install.

Will it matter that the initial install was into the root directory of the main domain?

They're support guys are onto it already! Super prompt and helpful!

I'm rapt with the service and they're installing it for me, to avoid further shambolics, so I can't speak hghly enough of the dreamhost support guys!

Normally the one-clicks need to be installed into empty folders so if your web root is empty that will be fine. If you have problems with it again just get back to support again. They are very good and will not mind going through it for you.
