mod_rewrite issues with easy mod install

I continue to get this error: [Wed Dec 26 14:24:20 2007] [error] [client 204.14.152.106] mod_rewrite: maximum number of internal redirects reached. Assuming configuration error. Use 'RewriteOptions MaxRedirects' to increase the limit if neccessary.

how do I overcome this?

Do you have some kind of "recursive" rewrites? Is this an .htaccess that you created yourself or is this from a one-click install or usage of the panel?

thanks for the reply! There is no .htaccess file, and this is a standard install of phpBB2, the latest update (2.0.22 i think). I am attempting to install easymod, but cannot get this install.php to run. It looks like a configuration issue, except ALL other scripts run with no issue.

Hope that gives some more info!
