Simple Machines vs. vBulletin

Has anyone compared the two? I found Simple Machines through Joomla. Could vBulletin be integrated into Joomla also, or does SMF only work with it?
Onwards,
Matt

SMF is free. vBulletin isn't. (That makes a comparison somewhat problematic.) I'm sure just about anything can be integrated with Joomla!, but you'll have to search around for a bridge.

Very little to do with either emus or farmers!

Having used most, vBulletin is certainly recommended for a growing board. I don't know about Joomla! integration, but I use MyBB on two of my lower traffic boards, which include http://rockoids.com and http://techbroadcasting.com. I like its basic look without add-ons better than SMF, and it has superior configuration options.
The problem I had with SMF is that many of the mods simply don't work except with the default theme, which sort of defeats their purpose.

I'm a phpBB fan, myself, but that's not what the opening poster asked; vBulletin is certainly nice, but if you're on $8/month hosting, you might not have the spare change lying around for it.

vBulletin is $160 for a standard user license, with $30 each year for updates and support. A lease is $85 per year. So, after the initial payment, it's not a big drain.
If it's too expensive, I'll tell you that I have tried both phpBB and MyBB (and SMF for that matter) and I find that MyBB is the superior board. But you can try all three and take the one live that you prefer.
Actually, that's what I did for the two sites that have a lower amount of traffic.
I didn't want to pay for separate vBulletin licenses for all of them -- at least not right away.

I use smf and its good. I like the update feature with simple clicks and also its add-on plugins. I switched from vbulletin to smf since my last forum was exploited twice using the latest version.

Sorry for the HUGE bump, but, that's not entirely true, this theme I use on my website, named Phobos, has support for numerous mods, including SMFarcade, SMFshop, TinyPortal, Ultimate Shoutbox, Paid Subscriptions, Global Announcements, Ad management, SMF Gallery Lite and Googlebots & Spiders mods, not to mention Auto Embed Video Clips(all themes support this.)

What's not entirely true? To revive a thread 9 months later requires a bit more explanation except that you have an smf installation that appears to use enough computing power to possibly boot windows. (grin)

I'm still around, just hosting elsewhere on a dedicated box (with full control, including email and databases). We grew a lot faster than I anticipated.

i think phpBB is better option option as its opensource and there are lot many comms from where you can get free support
apart from that i think vbulletin is good if there are lot many users when come on at same time...
and best part of phpBB... its free na ;)
