phpUBB2 install

ok, i know it's probably something simple, but i get the "
phpBB : Critical Error
Could not connect to the database " note when i try to run the install. I've tried the following in the "database server hostname" field:
localhost
http://www.firelabs.com/dh_phpmyadmin/mysql.firelabs.com/
mysql.firelabs.com
firelabs.com
dreamhost.com
none work... shouldn't it be one of those? I've set up the database hostname, the database, and the user/pass stuff in the DH panel...I can bring it up in a web browser under mysql.firelabs.com, i can log in... but the install says no no no....
